GOING VEGAS
2007 will be calm before Vegas storm

By Anthony Curtis

Las Vegas has only one new casino opening in 2007. Palazzo, the sister property of the Venetian, is on track for a late '07 debut. It's also expected that the old Aladdin will undergo its official conversion to Planet Hollywood within the first half of the year. Several megaprojects, including Cosmopolitan, Encore, Project CityCenter, Echelon Place, and whatever Harrah's has planned for the center Strip, will be under construction throughout the year, heading for openings in 2008 and beyond.

SAVE IN SIN CITY

The Las Vegas Advisor's 2007 coupon book has 164 coupons for 65 different casinos, hotels, restaurants, and car-rental companies. They can be viewed at the Web address at the end of this column.

NOTHING IS FOREVER

Another low-priced show will bite the dust in April when "Forever Plaid" leaves the Gold Coast.

Q. Despite talk about the area east of the Strip near the Hard Rock, nothing materializes. Is anything scheduled there?

A. As of now, nothing is under way. Interest may be shifting to the other side of the Strip, close to where the Rio and Palms are located. An Asian-themed casino called Dragon City has been proposed for this sector.
