Water main leak snarls Waimanalo traffic

A water main leak on Kalaniana'ole Highway near Olomana Golf Links has closed one of the road's two lanes, snarling traffic between Waimanalo and Kailua.The Honolulu Board of Water Supply reported at 4:23 p.m. that crews are repairing a 2-inch-diameter pipe at 41-1698 Kalaniana'ole Highway, about 50 yards north of Flamingo Street.
Repair crews have blocked the Waimanalo-bound lane. Traffic in the area is being contraflowed on the single remaining lane. The water board said repairs are expected to last into this evening.
Water service to 13 homes was affected. The water board set up a water tap on a fire hydrant at 41-1702 Kalaniana'ole Highway.
