Police Beat: Bank robber still at large

Police are looking for a man in his 30s who robbed the Territorial Savings Bank McCully branch about 4 p.m. yesterday.

The robber wore a white "bucket" hat, a nylon stocking over his face and a long-sleeve blue shirt, police said. They said he approached a teller and demanded money. As the teller was inserting money into a plastic bag, the robber lifted his shirt to reveal a silver handgun tucked into his waistband.

After taking money from the teller, the robber moved to the next counter window where he demanded and received more money from a second teller. The robber then ran from the bank, police said.

Tip leads to arrest for stolen motorcycle, van

A 29-year-old Waimalu woman and a 41-year-old Pearl City man were arrested yesterday afternoon after a tipster called police to say the two were stripping a motorcycle on North King Street in Kalihi.

Police said the tipster called police dispatchers to report seeing a van pull up in front of 2295 N. King St, at about 1:45 p.m. According to the tip, the man driving the van and his woman passenger got out of the van, unloaded a motorcycle from the cargo area and began stripping it.

Officers who were sent to the scene checked on the motorcycle and learned it had been reported stolen about four hours earlier. The van had also been reported stolen.

The man who was driving the van when it arrived was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. The man and the woman were then arrested on suspicion of detaining stolen property.

Girl, 15, arrested while being held in detention

A 15-year-old girl being held in a Honolulu detention facility was arrested yesterday on suspicion of promoting prison contraband.

Facility staff members on Monday noticed the girl had cuts on her right arm and one of her legs. The girl was searched and staff members reported finding a razor blade on the girl. She was treated for minor injuries at the facility and then arrested, police said.

Witness IDs man who allegedly stole car

A 33-year-old man with no local address was arrested yesterday after a car stolen on Monday in the McCully area was recovered in Honokai Hale.

Police said a witness saw the man park the car on La'aloa Street about 10 a.m. yesterday and watched as he removed a screwdriver from the ignition and cleaned the steering column with a cloth.

Officers sent to the area spotted the man and caught up with him after a short foot chase. The witness identified the man as the person who had been seated in the car and he was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.

The man was also arrested on an outstanding contempt of court warrant and on drug possession and drug paraphernalia charges based on items found on him at the time of arrest, police said.
