Yan cooks at weekend homes show

Chef Martin Yan is the special chef guest this year at the 12th BIA-Hawaii Home Building and Remodeling Show this weekend at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. Yan will be seen at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, preparing dishes from the latest in a long line of his cookbooks, "Martin Yan's Quick & Easy" (Chronicle, paper, $24.95).

Other chefs giving demonstrations include Lydell Leong of 3660 On The Rise, 12:30 p.m. Saturday; Kelvin Ro of Diamond Head Market & Grill, 4 p.m. Saturday; Marc Anthony of Sergio's Italian Restaurant, 12:30 p.m. Sunday; and Carole Mito, "Hawai'i's Microwave Lady," preparing 13 courses in 60 minutes using six microwave ovens at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Bev Gannon of Maui's Hali'imaile General Store will demonstrate Valentine's Dayappropriate recipes from "The Hali'imaile General Store Cookbook" on Saturday at the Sub-Zero/Wolf Honolulu showroom, 938 Pi'ikoi St. The schedule is: 10 a.m., sashimi napoleon and tenderloin with lobster hash (live radio broadcast); 11 a.m. to noon, book signing; noon, warm goat cheese crepe, duck salad, Kula strawberry shortcake. At 2 p.m. Sub-Zero/Wolf chef Carol Nardello will prepare sweetheart cakes, swirled turtle brownies and coconut macaroons dipped in chocolate fondue. No reservations needed. Call: 597-1647.
