HILO, Hawai'i — Fire rescue workers today recovered the body of a 29-year-old woman who disappeared into the Wailuku River in Hilo Sunday and apparently drowned.

Rescue workers sent divers into the river and used a helicopter to search by air over four days after Jan C. Callahan was swept away by the current about 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

She was last seen near Pe'epe'e Falls in the upper Kaumana area of Hilo. Her body was found about 2 p.m. today slightly downstream near Boiling Pots.

Callahan had moved to the Big Island from Utah just days before the accident to take a positon as an athletic trainer at Kea'au High School.

Police have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of her death.
