The state attorney general's department is seeking to permanently ban four accused drug dealers on Maui from the area of Banyan Tree Park in Lahaina.

The "drug nuisance abatement action" filed Jan. 26 is against Nolan Fraser, Solomon N. Fraser Jr., Desmond Morris and Kaipo Mitchell Opunui.

The four were indicted earlier on charges of drug promotion and of drug promotion near a school or public park. Their trial is scheduled to begin this month.

The nuisance abatement action is used to ban known criminals or others from places they frequent, such as so-called "drug houses."

"This action sends a message to drug dealers that the sale of drugs in the community will not be tolerated," Attorney General Mark Bennett said. "We expect this action to bring some relief to the Lahaina community and its residents and visitors."
