Paddling fundraiser for Pure Light set for Feb. 11

 •  For exercise, education take a walk on the unwild side

A fundraiser for the Pure Light Racing Team, a group of six disabled and six able-bodied paddlers, will be Feb. 11 at Pinky's Pupu Bar & Grill.

The team is raising money for its trip to the 2006 IVF World Sprints Championships on March 21-25.

Pure Light will participate in exhibition events in New Zealand, promoting adaptive paddling events of the Paralympic Games.

There will be food, live music and a silent auction at Pinky's, which is at 970 N. Kalaheo Ave., in Kailua. Tickets for the event are available in advance or at the door and are $25. For more information, or to make a donation, call 375-1155.

SHAVE ICE BOWL SET

The Shave Ice Bowl, a disc golf tournament, will be Feb. 11 at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden in Kane'ohe. The event, which starts at 10 a.m., will benefit the Hawai'i Foodbank. Costs are $75 for a team of three, or $50 per person. Hole sponsorship is $50. For more information, call 220-7704 or 836-3600, ext. 244.
