Expect strong, gusty winds all day

Advertiser Staff

A wind advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. today for O'ahu, Kaua'i and Ni'ihau with winds of 15 to 30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph expected, according to the National Weather Service.

The fast-moving cold front sweeping across the chain today is expected to bring strong and gusty winds out of the north, said the weather service.

Tonight, winds will be out of the northeast from 15 to 30 mph and occasional gusts up to 45 mph. Winds should die down to 15 to 20 mph tomorrow.

The gusty north winds are also leading to large and rough surf along north- and west-facing shores.

Surf along north-facing shores are expected to be from 12 to 18 feet today, increasing to 18 to 22 feet tonight. Surf along west-facing shores are expected to be 8 to 12 feet today, increasing to 10 to 15 feet tonight. Surf on both shores is expected to decline tomorrow.
