Expired warranty triggers alleged threats

A 42-year-old Liliha man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly threatened a service representative at a car dealership with a gun after being told his car's warranty had expired and he would have to pay for repairs to the car out of his own pocket.

According to police, the car owner became angry and agitated after the service representative for the Mercedes dealer on Kapi'olani Boulevard told him his car was no longer under warranty.

Police were told that the customer began to argue with the service representative and pulled out what appeared to be a handgun and threatened to harm the service representative about 3:30 p.m. The irate customer also shoved a second dealer employee who came to the aid of the first employee, police said.

The angry customer left the dealership before police arrived but was located a short time later and arrested at the corner of Pauahi and Maunakea streets in downtown Honolulu for suspicion of carrying a handgun in public, first-degree terroristic threatening and harassment.



Neighbor allegedly beats man with bolt-studded chain

A Pi'ikoi Street resident was arrested yesterday after he allegedly beat a neighbor with a chain studded with bolts, police said.

They said the 48-year-old suspect went to the house next door about 4 p.m. and got into an argument with a 30-year-old man. Police were told that during the argument, the older man took out the bolt-studded chain and beat the younger man several times with it, and then assaulted the neighbor's girlfriend with his fists when she came outside after hearing a commotion.

The suspect ran home and was arrested a short time later for investigation of second-degree assault.



Acquaintance arrested for car theft

An 18-year-old man with no local address was arrested late last night as a suspect in a car theft case.

The car's owner, a 55-year-old woman, told police an acquaintance of hers took her car key while she was asleep and drove the car without her permission. The man was arrested for suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle when he returned to the woman's home about 10:50 p.m.



Man arrested in Wal-Mart parking lot

A 42-year-man was charged yesterday with breaking into a car in the parking lot of the Ke'eaumoku Street Wal-Mart store about 10:35 a.m. on Tuesday. Bail for the man, who has no local address, was set at $25,000.



Makiki teen arrested for car theft

A 19-year-old Makiki man was arrested about 7:30 a.m. yesterday in the Salt Lake area while driving a car that a 47-year-old woman had reported stolen.

A patrol officer said he saw the man driving without a seatbelt, checked on the car's license plate before initiating a traffic stop and learned that the car was on a stolen vehicle list. The officer then pulled the driver over and arrested him for suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
