POLICE BEAT
Injury to infant prompts probe

Advertiser Staff

Police have opened an assault investigation after a Kalihi woman on Monday took her 3-month-old son to the hospital, where the infant was diagnosed with a broken leg.

The mother told investigators that she left the baby in a bedroom with three other children about 3 p.m. Feb. 1 while she went to the kitchen to prepare a bottle for him. Police said the mother told investigators that she heard the baby screaming, went back to the bedroom and was told by the other children that a 3-year-old child who was in the room had hurt the baby.

The mother said she decided to take the baby to the doctor because he was crying more than usual over the weekend and that one of his legs appeared to be swollen.
