Trial ordered for burglary suspect

Advertiser Staff

A 34-year-old man was ordered yesterday to stand trial on a charge of trying to break into a Mililani Mauka home on Feb. 2.

Part-time Honolulu District Judge Alvin Nishimura ordered Marlon Galapon to stand trial on the attempted-burglary charge, which carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

Nishimura denied a defense request to alter Galapon's $40,000 bail after city Deputy Prosecutor Keith Seto told the judge Galapon is awaiting sentencing on four burglary convictions which carry a maximum potential sentence of 80 years in prison.

The defense request was to enable Galapon to post a bond rather than $40,000 in cash.

Galapon's trial date on the attempted-burglary charge will be set when he is arraigned in Circuit Court on Feb. 21.

Police have said they believe Galapon is responsible for many of the more than 100 burglaries in the Mililani area since Nov. 16. Seto said he can't say whether Galapon will be charged in the other cases because prosecutors don't know yet what the evidence is against him.
