BYUH tops Chaminade

Austin Smylie scored 24 points as Brigham Young-Hawai'i edged Chaminade, 66-64, last night in a Pacific West Conference basketball game at McCabe Gym.

Smylie hit 8-of-11 shots, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range, as the Seasiders improved to 11-8 overall and 4-3 in the PacWest.

Danny Jackson added 11 points and Vaughn Schoten contributed eight points and six rebounds for BYUH.

Chris Powell had 18 points, sinking 8 of 9 shots from the field, and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Silverswords (14-7, 6-2).

Kawika Shoji scored 12 points and as host Iolani defeated Mid-Pacific, 57-28, last night in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu boys basketball game.

Damon Sublett homered twice, doubled and drove in four runs as Wichita State opened its season with a 9-4 victory over Hawai'i-Hilo, 9-4, last night at Wong Stadium.

Kyler Wartman batted 2 for 4, including a homer, with two RBIs for Hilo (1-5).
