Rainbow Wahine rally for a split

Kaulana Gould and Tanisha Milca drove in runs, and Jessica Morton gave up a run on five hits over seven innings, helping host Hawai'i beat Southern Mississippi, 2-1, last night in the Hawai'i Paradise Classic at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

The victory helped the Rainbow Wahine split two games yesterday.

Earlier in the evening, Summer Tobias pitched a three-hitter as Brigham Young beat Hawai'i, 4-0.

Iolani alum Ianeta Le'i singled, tripled, scored a run and drove in a run for the Cougars. Baldwin High alum Ashlyn Russell also scored and drove in run for BYU.

LOYOLA MARYMOUNT 1, TEXAS STATE 0

Tiffany Pagano tossed a three-hitter and Kirsten Slouber scored from third on a throwing error in the top of the fifth as the Lions beat the Bobcats.

TEXAS STATE 6, BRIGHAM YOUNG 4

Kati Trahan hit a two-run homer and the Bobcats broke a 3-all tie with three runs in the top of the seventh to turn back the Cougars.

TEXAS-ARLINGTON 2, SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI 1

Autumn Petrino drove in two runs and Laura Jones gave up a run on five hits in pitching a complete game as the Mavericks beat the Golden Eagles.

BYUH GETS SWEPT

Jessica Gaumnitz scattered four hits and only a seventh-inning run, helping Cal State-Stanislaus to a 7-1 victory over Brigham Young-Hawai'i and a sweep of a doubleheader yesterday at BYUH's field in La'ie.

The Warriors (9-1) won the first game, 5-4. BYUH fell to 2-4.

BYUH will host Hawai'i Pacific today for a doubleheader starting at noon.
