Marcos' daughter hopes deal ends court cases

Associated Press

MANILA, Philippines — Late President Ferdinand Marcos' eldest daughter said today a compromise deal may be the best way to resolve more than 400 cases involving her family's alleged ill-gotten wealth.

The cases are still pending in courts as Filipinos prepare to mark the 20th anniversary of the "people power" revolt that drove Marcos and his family into exile in Hawai'i on Feb. 25, 1986.

"Given the long time that we spent and the huge amounts of money that have been expended, perhaps a more pragmatic solution is in order even if neither my family nor the government, nor many sectors of society will be happy about the outcome," House Rep. Imee Marcos told The Associated Press.
