Man gets one-year jail term in fatal 2003 crash

Advertiser Staff

A 22-year-old man was ordered today to start serving a one-year jail term for negligently causing a head-on collision when his pick up truck slammed into another pick up truck on Kalaniana'ole Highway near the Olomana Golf Course on Feb. 23, 2003.

Aadam-Frederick Akiona was also placed on five years' probation for second-degree negligent homicide by Circuit Judge Michael Wilson for the death of Ramus Seabury, 62, who was on his way to work that morning. Akiona was 19 at the time of the crash.

Wilson issued the sentence at the end of an emotional hearing in the courtroom overflowing with family members and friends of both the defendant and the victim.
