Five from Hawai'i seeded in USTA National Open

Hawai'i has four boys and a girl seeded in the USTA National Open, which begins Saturday at Central O'ahu Regional Park. Finals are scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Hawai'i Prep Academy senior Holden Ching, the top-ranked junior boy in the state, is seeded third. He is followed by Hyatt Bailey (8), Daniel Llarenas (10) and Mike Lim (14), the 2005 state high school champion, in the boys draw.
Two-time state champion Kalei Gora, a St. Francis senior, is seeded fifth in the girls draw.
Ching and Kamehameha's Brooke Doane advanced to the final 20 in singles last year in this tournament, which brings some 200 elite juniors from 22 states and Canada to Hawai'i. Entry is restricted to those who qualify through a national selection process.
There will be a Community Tennis Day Monday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., in conjunction with the event. It features tennis events and activities for the public. There will be clinics and demonstrations by local tennis manufacturers and pros, for adults and juniors.
Admission is free to the matches and Community Day. The tournament is presented by the City and County of Honolulu and Punahou Tennis Club.
