"The American Dream" is the theme of the 29th annual Great Hawaiian Sand Castle Event, from 9 to 11 a.m. today at Kailua Beach Park.

The public is invited to watch students and faculty of the University of Hawai'i's School of Architecture, professional architects and their friends and families design and build their sculptures in the sand.

Awards will be given in several categories, including professional, student and best interpretation of the day's theme.
