Warriors sign top prep safety from Texas

The University of Hawai'i football team Tuesday secured a commitment from a highly regarded strong safety from Texas.

Geoff Hayth of Dripping Springs High School near Austin said he reneged on a commitment to join the Air Force Academy and instead will sign with the Warriors.

"I love everything about the program," Hayth told The Advertiser. "Everybody on the coaching staff is amazing. I'm very impressed with coach (June), coach (Jerry) Glanville (the defensive coordinator) and the rest of the staff."

Hayth also is friends with two other UH recruits — defensive back Lucious Henderson and wideout Mitch Farney.

Hayth, who is 6 feet 1 and 195 pounds, can run 40 yards in 4.44 seconds and 100 meters in 10.69 seconds.

He can bench press 325 pounds.

This past season, he made 94 tackles and three interceptions.

He was named to the All-State second team, All-CenTex first team (for the Austin area) and All-District.
