Tuesday's recap

Ale scores 31 to lift Kahuku: Junior Ale scored a game-high 31 points to lead Kahuku past Honoka'a, 67-63, in overtime in a state tournament first-round game Tuesday at Radford's Jim Alegre Gymnasium.

Ale scored five points in overtime - including the go-ahead 3-pointer - and had all of Kahuku's final five baskets that bridged the fourth quarter and overtime against Honoka'a (13-6), the Big Island Interscholastic Federation runner-up.

"In overtime, I was relaxed," Ale said. "I was thinking we can't lose this game. I said it over and over again. I wasn't about to lose in my senior year."

Ho's putback wins it for Kamehameha: Jacob Ho banked in an 8-footer with three seconds remaining to lift Interscholastic League of Honolulu runner-up Kamehameha to a 51-49 victory over Lahainaluna at McKinley.

Kamehameha (11-3) survived despite trailing Maui runner-up Lunas 16-7 after the first period.

The Warriors came back to take a 33-30 halftime lead, but the Lunas (7-6) hung tough and never trailed by more than four in the second half.

"We didn't know too much about them before the game," said Ho, who finished with 11 points and two steals. "But we quickly found out they could shoot and they could play. We were on a (three-game) losing streak, and I think we forgot how to win."
