ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Send in the 'Night Music'

Advertiser Staff

Remember watching Madonna warbling tunes in "Dick Tracy" and thinking, "Sheesh, Stephen Sondheim wrote this crap?" I still do. Let's forget 1989 together at one of the Tony-winning composer's more beloved musical efforts, "A Little Night Music." Manoa Valley Theatre premieres a production of the 1973 musical romance at 7:30 tonight. The songs you know — "Send In the Clowns," "The Sun Won't Set" — are still there. Madge and Warren? History, in so many ways. Runs through March 12. 988-6131.

FASHION

THAT '70S SHOE

Now here's a fashion flashback: Famolares. Every trend-conscious female, from tweens to soccer moms, had a pair. Circa 1976, the high wedge shoes with the trademark wavy soles in earthy browns and beiges were all the rage, along with bell-bottom jeans and Indian tunics. And the shoes are back, re-engineered and retooled in bright kid leathers. You can time travel at the Sandal Tree in Ala Moana Center.

FINAL WORD

"I know I don't look my age and these guys will ask me for my phone number. I go, 'Well, I'm 15!' I hate to tell them, because they really get embarrassed and say something like, 'I thought you were 20.'

Q'Orianka Kilcher | the deerskin-donning "The New World" actress, on Movies.com. She turned 16 this month.
