Advertiser Staff

Honolulu's Michelle Wie shot a 5-under-par 67 Thursday and is among the leaders in the inaugural LPGA Fields Open at Ko Olina Golf Club.

Wie is tied for fifth, three shots behind leader Loreno Ochoa, who shot 8-under 64.

Seon Hwa Lee and Wendy Ward both shot 7-under. Karen Stupples shot a 6-under 66.

Wie had six birdies and a bogey. During a six-hole stretch from the sixth hole to the 11th, the Punahou School junior had four birdies.

Wie birdied the par-5 first and bogeyed the par-5 fifth to fall back to even par. She then birdied the par-4 sixth, seventh, ninth and 11th holes. She also birdied the par-5 14th.

She shot a 3-under 33 on the front and a 2-under 34 on the back.

The 16-year-old teed off early in the 132-player field.

Wie is tied with a handful of players, including Morgan Pressel, at 17, the youngest LPGA member. Although a pro, Wie is not a member of the LPGA.
