Two arrested after fleeing stolen car

A 27-year-old man who allegedly failed to follow a police officer's instructions to pull over for a minor traffic infraction was arrested early yesterday morning for suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle.

Police said the officer attempted to pull the driver over for a stop-sign violation only to have the driver speed away. The officer ran a check on the license plate number and learned a 22 year-old man had reported the car stolen.

The car was later located on the University of Hawaii-Manoa campus where witnesses pointed out two fleeing suspects to police.

The man who was seen driving the car was arrested for suspicion of operating a stolen vehicle and the 17-year-old boy who had been a passenger in the car was arrested on the basis of a bench warrant related to a traffic offense.



Man looking into vehicles arrested for stealing truck

An 18-year-old Waikalani man was arrested yesterday in connection with a stolen truck case reported Feb. 6.

The truck belongs to a 38-year-old woman, whose 15-year-old daughter saw it being driven Feb. 16 by the Waikalani man. The truck was recovered the following day.

Found inside the truck were a Hawai'i state identification card and a driver's permit. The daughter of the truck theft victim identified the man whose picture was on the state ID card and driver's permit as the same man she saw driving her mother's truck, police said.

Police stopped a man yesterday in Mililani after receiving reports that he was looking into vehicles parked on the street in Mililani. They then learned he was a suspect in the stolen truck case and arrested him for suspicion of unlawful control of a propelled vehicle.



Man allegedly waving gun at park arrested

A 29-year-old man with no local address was arrested in the McCully area yesterday afternoon after police received a complaint that he was waving a gun around at Ala Wai Community Park.

Officers who were sent to the park quickly located the man and found a replica handgun on him. The officers found a backpack near the man, but he denied it was his. The officers checked the backpack and found two handguns as well as personal items that linked the backpack to the man on whom the replica gun was found.

One of the handguns in the backpack had been reported stolen in 2004, police said

They arrested the man for suspicion of carrying a firearm in public, detaining stolen property and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.



Man allegedly reaches in, punches woman in car

Police arrested a 52-year-old man at the former Barbers Point Naval Air Station yesterday morning after he allegedly reached into a car and punched a 30-year-old woman in the face.

The woman told police she was sitting in the car at about 11:40 a.m. when the man struck her, causing pain to the area near her right eye.

Police were sent to the scene and arrested the man for suspicion of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, a felony.



Woman arrested for kicking car door

A 46-year-old woman was arrested yesterday after a 57-year-old woman allegedly found the younger woman kicking the doors of her car on Kalakaua Avenue near the Waikiki Aquarium.

The car owner told police that both the passenger and driver's-side doors were damaged.

After kicking the door, the suspect began to walk away but was followed by a witness who used a cell phone to report the incident, police said.

Officers were sent to the area and arrested the suspected door kicker for investigation of second-degree criminal property damage.


Man arrested for allegedly beating companion

A 24-year-old man was arrested early yesterday morning after allegedly punching his 25-year-old woman companion in the face several times near the corner of Oneawa Street and Kipuka Place in Kailua.

The victim was taken to Castle Medical Center, where she was treated for facial fractures.

The man later turned himself in at the Kailua Police Station. He was arrested for suspicion of second-degree assault.
