Hawaii sweeps Cal State Northridge in volleyball

Advertiser StaffJosé José Delgado pounded 17 kills and Dio Dante had 11 blocks in the fourth-ranked University of Hawai'i volleyball team's 30-27, 41-39, 30-27 victory over No. 5 Cal State Northridge Saturday in California.
In winning their fifth in a row, the Warriors improved to 9-4 overall and 7-3 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
The Matadors fell to 8-7 and 4-6.
The Warriors' point total in Game 2 was the second most in the program's history. That game also marked this season's debut of opposite attacker John Matt Bender, who had been sidelined with torn ligaments in his left ankle. Bender finished with eight kills, four blocks and an ace. In 2001, Hawaii won a 42-40 game against UCLA,
In all, the Warriors amassed 20 blocks. The Matadors had nine.
UH also held outside attacker Dan Rhodes to six kills and 24 for the two-match series. Last week, Rhodes hammered 41 kills in a loss to Pepperdine.
The Warriors finish this road trip with matches tomorrow and Tuesday against Southern California.
