1943: A bill is introduced in the territorial legislature to raise the residency requirement for territorial jobs from three years to eight years.
1947: Hilo Harbor remains shut down after the waterfront's 200 ILWU longshoremen refuse to unload vessels after a dispute on sling loading.
1971: A deliberately set fire destroys two rooms in an Army ROTC building at the University of Hawai'i. A former UH religion instructor and antiwar activist is questioned.
1976: The NCAA restores the eligibility of four University of Hawai'i basketball players who appeared in a television commercial for a local automobile dealership.
1977: Gov. George Ariyoshi announces the state will buy Waiahole Valley from landowner Elizabeth Marks to preserve the agricultural and rural profile of the valley.
1986: Ousted Philippines president Ferdinand Marcos arrives at Hickam Air Force Base. Gov. George Ariyoshi had extended an invitation to him to live in Hawai'i.
