Honolulu ranks No. 1 in chance of motorcycle theft

Advertiser Staff

Motorcyclists in Honolulu are more likely to have their bikes stolen than in any other metropolitan area, according to a study released today by the Progressive Group of Insurance Companies.

Progressive analyzed more than two million insurance claims filed nationwide over the past three years and found that Honolulu, the nation's 53rd-largest metro area, ranked far and above much larger metro areas for motorcycle theft. A motorcyclist in Honolulu is four times more likely to have a bike stolen than a motorcyclist in Chicago or Detroit, which are the third- seventh-largest metropolitan areas respectively.

Miami ranked No. 2 behind Honolulu, followed by San Diego, Las Vegas and New York. The metro area in which a motorcycle is least likely to be stolen is Grand Rapids, Mich., according to the study.
