1930: The first service of consecration of a bishop in the Episcopal Church in Hawai'i is celebrated at St. Andrew's Cathedral. Samuel Littell was consecrated bishop of the missionary district.
1931: The Territorial Supreme Court rules against Victoria Ward and her daughters in their fight to stay the construction of Kapi'olani Boulevard.
1959: The six-lane McCully Street bridge over the Ala Wai Canal is dedicated. It replaced a two-lane wooden bridge that dated back to the days of horse-drawn streetcars.
1970: A four-alarm fire sweeps the upper floors of the uncompleted 22-story Cinerama Kuhio Hotel in Waikiki, causing damage estimated at upward of $1 million.
1972: President Nixon for the first time pledges to withdraw all American forces and military installations from Taiwan.
1991: President George Bush declares victory in the first Gulf War.
2002: Amfac Hawaii LLC, descendant of one of the "Big Five"companies that once dominated the Islands, files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
