New HPD assistant chief named

Honolulu Police Major Donna Andersen was promoted to assistant chief of the department's administrative bureau this morning in a ceremony on the fourth floor of HPD's Alapa'i Street headquarters.

Andersen, a 22-year veteran of the department, will oversee the Human Resources Division, Finance Division, Training Division, Office of Accreditation and Labor Relations. She is currently commander of Internal Affairs.

Born in Pennsylvania and raised in Nevada, she holds a master of arts in Humanities from California State University- Dominguez Hills, a bachelor of arts in law enforcement and administration from San Jose State University and is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy.

She is the department's second female assistant chief. Barbara Wong, who retired in 2000, was the first.

Andersen replaces Assistant Chief Robert Prasser, who will retire at the end of the year after 31-years with the department, police said.
