Man sleeping in stolen car arrested

A 23-year-old man sleeping in a car in Pearl City was arrested after police discovered the car was stolen.

At 5:20 p.m. yesterday Pearl City patrol officers saw the man sleeping in the driver's seat of a parked car. The officers approached the man and asked him if he was OK, police said.

One of the officers noticed the car's Vehicle Identification Number had been removed from the dashboard and the license plates on the car did not match. The man then woke up and got out of the car to talk with the officers, police said.

After he opened the door, one of the officers saw the VIN number on the car door and ran it through HPD's stolen-car database. The check revealed the car the man was sleeping in was stolen.

He was arrested on suspicion of breaking into a car, fraudulent use of license plates, defacing a serial number, and two outstanding contempt of court warrants.



Cashier arrested in theft

A 24-year-old retail employee at Ala Moana Center was arrested yesterday after store officials discovered he allegedly had been stealing money from a cash register for over a week, police said.

Another employee of the store allegedly saw the man reach into the register, take out a $20 bill and put it in his pocket. Store security caught him and interviewed the man before police arrived. Store officials learned the man had taken roughly $285 from the store, starting Dec. 23, police said.

Police were called and the man was arrested on suspicion of third-degree theft.



Man arrested for alleged sexual assault

A 28-year-old man was arrested yesterday after the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl.

The man was taken into custody yesterday after the girl told police she was sexually assaulted by the man Dec. 15 at about 4 p.m.

The 28-year-old was booked on suspicion of first-degree sex assault. The case is pending investigation, police said.
