Micronesian bank to open Hawai'i branch

State regulators have approved an application by a Micronesian bank to provide financial services in Hawai'i for its offices in Micronesia.

The state Division of Financial Institutions said it approved the Bank of Federates States of Micronesia's application to open an intra-Pacific bank branch.

The new bank branch will provide check clearing, wire transfer and other financial services for its offices in Micronesia. But it will not be open to the local public and will not take deposits from Hawai'i consumers, the state said.

The Federal Reserve, which regulates foreign banks in the United States, also approved the application.



Telecom conference set for Jan. 15-18 at Hilton Hawaiian Village

The 28th Annual Pacific Telecommunications Conference & Exhibition is scheduled for Jan. 15-18 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa.
