Fake money order leads to arrest

A 21-year-old Wai'anae man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly tried to cash a counterfeit U.S. Postal Service money order at a bank in 'Aiea.

Police said the man entered the bank, at 98-200 Kamehameha Highway, about 9:30 a.m. and handed a teller a money order for $850.

The teller was immediately suspicious of the money order and contacted her supervisor, who called police.

Officers arrived at the bank and arrested the man at about 9:30 a.m. for suspicion of first-degree forgery.



Man allegedly tries to cash stolen check

A 52-year-old 'Aiea man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly tried to cash a stolen check at a bank on Kaonohi Street.

Police said the man gave the teller the check about 3:45 p.m. The teller went to a computer to verify the check and learned it had been reported stolen, police said.

Officers were called to the bank, the teller identified the suspect and he was arrested without incident. The man was later released without charges, pending further investigation.



Suspect arrested in New Year's Day car theft

A 19-year-old Wai'anae man was arrested in Wai'anae yesterday as a suspect in a car theft on Jan. 1.

Police said patrol officers were attempting to stop the car for a traffic offense when the driver took off.

Several additional police officers converged on the area where the car was last seen and found it abandoned.

The suspect was spotted nearby and arrested for suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
