KAHULUI, Maui — Two passengers suffered minor injuries today when a tour helicopter made a "precautionary landing" after its pilot reported engine failure, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Blue Hawaiian Helicopters aircraft took off from Kahului Airport on a sightseeing flight at 9:33 a.m. with a pilot and five passengers, the FAA said. The helicopter came down near Nakalele Point on Maui's northern end at about 11:05 a.m.

The aircraft suffered substantial damage, the FAA said.

Crews from the Maui Fire Department and Coast Guard helped airlift the passengers to waiting ground transportation.
