Man faces murder charge in stabbing

Advertiser Staff

Police said they will charge Edgar Saludez Gamulo with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of a man on New Year's Eve in Waimalu.

Lee Maunupau, 26, of Kailua, died Tuesday at The Queen's Medical Center. He was stabbed when he and others confronted Gamulo about driving recklessly on the 300 block of Kaluamoi Drive about 10:50 Saturday night, police said.

Police have charged Gamulo with attempted murder but plan to amend the charge to second-degree murder at a preliminary hearing today.

Witnesses told police Maunupau and three friends went to warn Gamulo to be careful because children were playing in the street, according to an affidavit filed in O'ahu District Court.
