Maui boy drowns while fishing

The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. when the boy walked out to his father on the reef, police said. The father told his son to return to shore because of rough waters, but a wave washed both of them into a hole in the reef.
The man was able to get out but the boy was trapped under 6 feet of water and apparently drowned before rescuers could bring him to the surface.
Police have not released the boy's name.
