1922: Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana'ole, first titular prince of the monarchy and a delegate to the U.S. Congress from Hawai'i, dies at Waikiki.
1927: A grand jury report deplores the large numbers of forgeries in the territory and criticizes merchants for laxness and not insisting on identification when checks are written.
1964: Federal officials give preliminary approval to state plans to designate Lunalilo Freeway as a cross-town route for the National Interstate and Defense Highway System.
1989: Emperor Hirohito dies and his son, Akihito, becomes emperor of Japan.
1990: Well-known Hawai'i entertainer and radio and television personality Napua Stevens Poire dies at age 71. She hosted Napua's Kitchen on television for eight years and narrated television coverage of the annual Kamehameha Day and Aloha Week parades for years.
