Hawai'i divers sweep meet titles

University of Hawai'i sophomore Mats Wiktorsson won the men's 1-meter springboard and UH's women swept the top three spots in the 3-meter springboard at the Hawai'i Diving Invitational yesterday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

Wiktorsson, who won the 3-meter springboard on Saturday, won the 1-meter with 318.80 points. Thomas Ferguson of Connecticut was second with 289.75.

In the women's 3-meter, Rui Wang scored 316.35 points to beat out teammates QiongJie Huang (307.70) and Megan Farrow (274.85). Huang, the reigning NCAA 1-meter Division I champion, won the 1-meter on Saturday.

In a swimming meet, Minnesota's men defeated UH (99-47) and Wisconsin (89-66), while the Badgers beat UH (106-53). Wisconsin's women defeated Hawai'i, 150-89.

CHRISTINE KIM EARNS LPGA SBS OPEN SPOT

Christine Kim, a Waiakea High senior, birdied the second playoff hole at Turtle Bay's Arnold Palmer Course on Saturday to earn a spot in the LPGA's SBS Open.

Kim and Kristina Merkle finished with 7-over-par 79s. Both parred the first playoff hole before Kim birdied the 18th.

The SBS Open at Turtle Bay is Feb. 16 to 18.

Kimberly Kim, Christine's sister, was third in qualifying (80) and Cyd Okino fourth (81).
