Wie paired with ex-University of Florida standouts

Advertiser Staff

Punahou School junior Michelle Wie will be paired with two former University of Florida standouts in the first two rounds of the Sony Open in Hawai'i.

Wie will tee off on the 10th tee 8:40 a.m. Thursday and on the first tee at 1:10 p.m. Friday.

Her playing partners will be Chris Couch of Gainesville, Fla., and Camilo Villegas of Medellin, Colombia. Couch, 32, graduated in 1995; Villegas, 24, in 2004.

Couch's highest PGA Tour finish was seventh in the 1999 Sony Open in Hawai'i. He has five victories on the Nationwide Tour. He finished third on the 2005 Nationwide Tour money list.

Villegas' best tour finish was a tie for seventh in the 2004 B.C. Open.

Wie, 16, will be making her third appearance in the Sony.

Wie, who missed the cut by a shot in 2004, is trying to become the first female to make a PGA Tour cut since 1945.

After the cut on Friday, new pairings will be announced.
