1927: The new Territorial Office Building is the first downtown Honolulu business to have new tumbler type electric wall switches, Hawaiian Electric Co. announces.
1932: Funeral is held for Joseph Kahahawai at Our Lady of Peace Cathedral. The Honolulu Advertiser reports it was the largest funeral ever for a non-royal Hawaiian.
1955: Honolulu Rapid Transit System announces it will eliminate all trolley service within three years. In the previous two years, HRT had eliminated 30 trolleys, replacing them with diesel buses.
1995: Federal Judge David Ezra finds the state in contempt of court for failing to abide by a 1991 settlement agreement calling for improvements at the Hawaii State Hospital.
2003: Striking nurses at Kuakini Medical Center vote overwhelmingly to ratify a new contract giving them a pay raise of 20 percent over three years. They had walked off the job Dec. 2, 2002.
