Hospitality industry employees honored

George Gaspar, a maintenance supervisor at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa, was named the Outstanding Lodging Employee of the Year at the Hawai'i Hotel & Lodging Association's 16th annual Na Po'e Pa'ahana awards ceremony yesterday.

Gaspar was one of nine hospitality industry employees recognized by the HHLA for "outstanding and exceptional service to hotel guests, co-workers and the community." Award recipients were selected based on nominations from their supervisors and co-workers.

Winners in other categories were:

  • Bell/Valet Person of the Year: Marina Amby, Sheraton Maui Resort.

  • Concierge of the Year: Gilbert Sablas, Royal Lahaina Resort.

  • Engineering/Maintenance Person of the Year: Craig Matsuoka, Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club.

  • Food & Beverage Person of the Year: Martina Brun, Sheraton Kauai Resort.

  • Front Office Person of the Year: Lori Lei Nishida, Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki and Golf Club.

  • Manager of the Year: Thelma Kam, Sheraton Hotels Waikiki.

  • Housekeeper of the Year: Encarnita Villarin, Waikiki Parc Hotel.

  • Security Officer of the Year: Stan Akee, Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki Hotel.

    The Honolulu Advertiser was named HHLA's Allied Member of the Year for its support of Charity Walk, community education programs and other initiatives. Mike Fisch, president and publisher of The Advertiser, accepted the award on behalf of the newspaper.
