POLICE BEAT
Strong-arm robber arrested

Advertiser Staff

A 26-year-old man was arrested yesterday as a suspect in the strong-arm robbery on Oct. 24 of a 43-year-old woman in the parking lot of a University Avenue area business.

Police said a man approached the woman about 9:50 p.m., grabbed her purse and used physical force to take it from her.

They said a security guard heard the struggle and intervened, but the robber was able to overpower him and flee the area.

A suspect was identified during a subsequent investigation and officers from the East Honolulu crime reduction unit located him yesterday and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree robbery.

Man's jaw broken in fight

A 27-year-old man was arrested in La'ie early this morning after he allegedly broke another man's jaw.

Police said the two men were arguing about 12:30 a.m. when the suspect punched the victim, 26, unexpectedly.

Police were called and arrested the older man on suspicion of second-degree assault.

Police call leads to gun arrest

A 27-year-old Pearl City man who called police early yesterday morning to report that a registered gun had been stolen from his car wound up being arrested himself on suspicion of failing to properly store a loaded firearm.

The man called police about 1:45 a.m. to file a complaint about the gun being stolen from his car.

While police were talking to the man, he decided to check the interior of his car one more time and found the handgun in an unsecured area.

At that point, police arrested the man on suspicion of the weapons offense.

Traffic stop leads to felony arrest

Things went from bad to worse in a hurry Tuesday night for a 29-year-old man who was arrested initially on Farrington Highway in Wai'anae on suspicion of driving without a license — a misdemeanor.

Police said the man was brought to a receiving desk to be booked on the traffic offense and while he was searched a single bullet was found in one of his pockets.

That led to his arrest on suspicion of a being in possession of ammunition — a felony.

Charges were pending against the man this morning.
