ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Georgia band plays gigs at Anna's, thirtyninehotel

Advertiser Staff

The jangly guitar sound of '60s-inspired band Of Montreal (actually of Athens, Ga.) will hit two venues this weekend. The band's sound ranges from three-minute pure pop songs (critics have compared the band to the Beatles, which bewilders front man Kevin Barnes) to longer, surreal "concept album" stuff.

If you like the Shins, you'll like Of Montreal. At 9 p.m. tomorrow at Anna Bannana's and 9 p.m. Saturday at thirtyninehotel.

COCKTAIL A STIRRING RENDITION

Last week, Outrigger Hotels gave out its second annual On the Beach Signature Drink awards at the Outrigger Waikiki. Bartenders chose a song by Hawaiian Grammy nominees and devised a drink to match it.

Ledward Ka'apana's "Pau Pilikia" inspired Amie Fujiwara's winning dessert-like blend of Bailey's Irish Creme, kahlua, vodka, ice cream and banana — swirled with chocolate syrup. The worry-banishing cocktail will be served at Duke's.

FINAL WORD

"I like how on 'Ed,' I chased one girl. On this show, I chase them all."

Tom Cavanagh | actor, on his role in the new CBS series "Love Monkey" (premieres Tuesday), in TV Guide

Correction: Of Montreal performs at 9 p.m. today at Anna Bannanas and at 9 p.m. tomorrow at thirtyninehotel. The wrong day was given for the thirtyninehotel performance in a previous version of this story.
