Chaminade beats UH-Hilo, 73-60

Advertiser Staff

Chris Reaves scored a game-high 34 points as Chaminade remained unbeaten in Pacific West Conference basketball play with a 73-60 victory over Hawai'i-Hilo at McCabe Gym last night.

Reaves hit 13 of 21 shots, including 6 of 8 from 3-point range, and added seven assists for the Silverswords (11-4 overall, 4-0 PacWest). Marko Kolaric added 10 rebounds and six points.

Joe Travis and Justin Griffin each scored 18 points to lead the Vulcans (10-4, 0-1).

Chaminade held a 25-21 halftime lead, but fell behind by as many as 11 in the second half. That's when Reaves, who was hobbled by a foot injury, took over the game.

"He made shot after shot," said Chaminade coach Matt Mahar. "He made plays that seniors make. They all did. When we needed a play our seniors stepped up and gave us one."

Mahar cited the defense of Dylan McCune, who limited Griffin to 5-of-18 shooting.
