Mililani rallies past Campbell, 54-48

MILILANI — With a frantic fourth-period comeback, Mililani rallied past Campbell, 54-48, in O'ahu Interscholastic Association action last night.

The Trojans improved to 3-0 in the OIA's Western Division; the Sabers fell to 2-1. Mililani travels to Kapolei (2-0) tomorrow for another West showdown.

The Trojans survived last night's game only after overcoming a 15-point second-period deficit and trailing by 10 entering the final quarter. In fact, Campbell led 46-32 with five minutes remaining before Mililani's Nick Kanno swished a baseline jumper seven seconds later to start a 10-0 run.

Jordan Torres' layup with 1:26 left put the Trojans up 48-47, and Donovan Olmos drained a 3-pointer with one minute remaining to give Mililani a 51-47 lead. It was Olmos' second 3-pointer during the comeback, in which he scored 10 of his 12 points.

"I was in a drought (before the fourth quarter)," said Olmos, a 5-foot-9 junior forward. "But my teammates kept my confidence up and my coaches told me to stay with it, it's gonna come. The team believed we could still win."

Things did not look promising earlier, when the Sabers jumped to a 15-10 lead after one quarter and stretched it to 28-13 with two minutes left in the half. Campbell maintained the lead in the second half, only to see it disintegrate with turnovers against full-court pressure.

The Sabers had only eight players available due to disciplinary action, coach Bob Samson said.
