TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Figure Skating: U.S. Championship," 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., ABC. Just four weeks from the Winter Olympics, here are the finals of the U.S. Figure Skating Championship. The men get the afternoon, the women the evening. It's a chance to see the top stars (Michelle Kwan, Sasha Cohen, etc.) ... or maybe to see a surprising newcomer, in the tradition of Tara Lipinski and Sarah Hughes.

"Hustle" debut, 8 p.m., AMC. Slick and quick, this series is what the Europeans do so well: a tale of scams and deceptions in glamorous settings. A smart con man (Mickey Lester) took a chance, because of love. He ended up in prison; now he's out and saying he wants one more big score. He assembles some smart Englishmen and a crafty old American. The Yank is played by Robert Vaughn, in a zesty role that seems like his old "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." character, gone to the dark side. That's the catch: To enjoy the show we have to root for crooks. There are other problems. The opening scam requires some huge breaks, plus some major mistakes by officials. Still, "Hustle" has a jaunty tone. The show is filled with smart twists and elegant settings.

OF NOTE

"Vanilla Sky" (2001), 5 and 8 p.m., Bravo. Levels of reality flick by intriguingly in a film that's fascinating to watch, yet ultimately frustrating. Tom Cruise plays a have-it-all guy whose life suddenly seems altered. Cameron Diaz turns in a great performance and Penelope Cruz also stars.

"Crossing Jordan," 7 p.m., NBC. When an inmate dies, Jordan works with Nigel and a tabloid reporter to investigate the prison health program. Also in this rerun, Lily and Woody are on opposite sides of an issue. She's soon negotiating in a life-or-death situation.

"Lilo & Stitch" (2002), 8 p.m., Disney Channel. A Hawaiian girl adopts an abrasive alien in this animated film.
