Gov. Linda Lingle today appointed Anne V. Stevens as representative for the 23rd District of the House of Representatives (Waikiki, Ala Moana, Kaka`ako), a news release said.

Her term expires in November 2006.

Stevens replaces Galen Fox, who resigned abruptly last year after being convicted of a federal misdemeanor for fondling a woman on a flight from Honolulu to Los Angeles in 2004.

"Anne has worked closely with the residents of the district to address issues that are important to the Waikiki, Ala Moana and Kaka'ako communities," said Lingle in the release. "She understands the district's concerns and will be able to use her extensive background in the maritime industry as well as her familiarity with the legislative process to be an effective representative for the people of her district."

Stevens, who has lived in Kaka'ako since 1993, currently is the office manager for state Sen. Gordon Trimble (Senate District 12), whose district encompasses the 23rd House District, the release said.

Stevens served for 12 years on active duty with the U.S. Coast Guard, including two years as operations officer at the Coast Guard base in Honolulu, two years as governmental affairs liaison in Washington, D.C., one year as military aide to the secretary of transportation, and three years as executive officer for the Coast Guard Station in St. Petersburg, Fla.

In addition to her career with the Coast Guard, Stevens has served as district manager for Quay Cruise Agency in Honolulu, and manager and shipping agent with shipping agency Theo Davies, Norton Lilly.

Stevens serves on the board of advisors of the Hawai'i Ocean Safety Team and volunteers for the Sierra Club's quarterly cleanups of the Ala Wai Boat Harbor.

She is a graduate of Springfield College in Springfield, Mass. She also attended the U.S. Coast Guard Officer Candidate School in Yorktown, Va., and completed the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, the release said.
