Man says no cigarette prompted attack

Police arrested one suspect early this morning and were looking for two others who allegedly beat a man who did not have a cigarette to give to one of his three assailants.

The victim told police he was walking along Kalakaua Boulevard about 1:10 a.m. when a man in a red shirt asked him for a cigarette. The victim said he told the suspect he did not have any cigarettes at which point the stranger became combative.

The victim told police he tried to walk away but the stranger followed him and called two other men on his cellular telephone.

The other men appeared and were holding sticks, the victim said. He said all three of the men beat him to the ground and ran away. The victim was taken to The Queen's Medical Center where he was reported to be in good condition this morning.

About 2:40 a.m., one of three suspected assailants was located and arrested for suspicion of second-degree assault.



Five police overpower man with knife

A Kalihi Valley man was arrested yesterday for suspicion of multiple felony offenses after he allegedly kept eight family members from opening the doors of their home to let police officers in and then threatening five police officers with a large kitchen knife after they managed to get inside the home on Laumaile Street.

Police were sent to the home in response to a complaint about a domestic dispute involving a husband and wife. Police had been at the home earlier in the day in connection with a domestic abuse case. When they arrived the second time, the husband refused to let them in, instructed family members not to admit them and threatened to harm them if they did, police said.

They said that someone inside the home eventually let them in and that five of the officers confronted the husband in the kitchen.

The husband grabbed a large kitchen knife and pointed it at the approaching officers, but they were able to overpower him and take the knife away, police said.

The husband was arrested for suspicion of five counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, eight counts of kidnapping and two counts of abuse of a family or household member.



Man allegedly stealing moped arrested

A 19-year-old Makiki man was arrested yesterday evening after an off-duty police officer reported seeing the man trying to steal a moped in the 1100-block of Wilder Avenue.

The off-duty officer confronted the man about 8:05 p.m. and he ran away. Patrol officers who were sent to the area spotted the man on Ke'eaumoku Street and arrested him for suspicion of second-degree theft.



Brother threatens sisters with knife

A 21-year-old Mo'ili'ili man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly threatened his two sisters, ages 16 and 18, with a large knife.

Officers were sent to a home on Maunawai Place about 8 p.m. and arrested the suspect for suspicion of two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening.



Woman threatened after confronting reckless driver

A 25-year-old Mililani man was arrested about 6:40 p.m. last night after he allegedly threatened to harm a 45-year-old Hale'iwa woman.

Police said the woman told them she confronted the man who was driving recklessly and speeding up and down the street the woman lives on.

The woman told police the man became violent, went to his car, retrieved a weapon and threatened to harm her.

The woman said she ran for her life and called police, who located the suspect and arrested him for suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.



Suspect wielding tire iron, knife arrested

Police arrested a 26-year-old man yesterday after he allegedly terrorized a 25-year-old man in a Waikiki parking lot.

The victim said the man appeared intoxicated and was armed with a 10-inch hunting knife in one hand and a tire iron in the other. The victim said the stranger began to chase him around the parking lot for no apparent reason and said he was going to stab him and cut him wide open.

Police arrived, disarmed the suspect and arrested him for first-degree terroristic threatening.



Police disarm woman holding knife, pipe and bat

Police arrested a 33-year-old woman late Saturday night in Waimanalo after she allegedly accosted a 28-year-old woman and demanded drugs.

The younger woman told police she was hanging out with friends about 11:30 p.m. when the older woman approached and asked for drugs.

The younger woman said she told the other woman she did not have any drugs and to leave her and her friends alone.

The victim told police the older woman went to her car, came back holding a knife, a pipe and a baseball bat and began threatening her.

Police arrived on the scene, disarmed the woman and arrested her for suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.
