POLICE BEAT
Intoxicated man surrenders shotgun

Advertiser Staff

Police defused a potentially violent situation in Punalu'u last night when they convinced an intoxicated man to surrender a sawed-off shotgun.

Officers went to a home on Punalu'u Valley Road at about 8:40 p.m. in response to a call about an argument involving a shotgun.

When they arrived, none of the people at the scene would cooperate, police said.

But after discussing the situation with those present, police said the 60-year-old, intoxicated man eventually turned over the shotgun voluntarily.

He was later arrested for suspicion of possession of a prohibited weapon, a felony, and failure to register a firearm, a misdemeanor offense.
