SIGHT 'EMS: Actor Johnny Knoxville, enjoying drinks at the Shore Bird last week, befriended sisters Sheri and Jamie Layosa, daughters of Wendy Nagaishi (the Royal Hawaiian hotel concierge), who took him to Fashion 45 at the Waikiki Trade Center for local nightlife. Knoxville, of films such as "The Ringer," "Dukes of Hazzard," and "Jackass: The Movie," will star in "Hawaiian Dick" sometime this year. He'll portray a luckless detective exiled in Hawai'i, where he becomes involved in a kidnapping of a local girl, with complicated results. Knoxville also will do "Jackass: The Movie Sequel." ...

Linda Lingle's delegation of 220. Tihati Productions' Cha Thompson has been on the trip, with Tihati performers doing a show in front of 4,000 people in Manila, attended by Mayor Lito Atienza (he used to dance with the Pearl of the Orient Dance Troupe here). For Thompson, it's been an emotional roller coaster; it's her first trip to her parents' homeland (Cebu). Tomimbang also has ancestral ties to Cebu. ...

The Makaha Sons just did three sell-outs in Japan, with Howard and Olana A'i and Iolani and Natalie Kamauu, and then ventured to Rome for the sights (the Vatican, the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps). The vacation has been fun, but John Koko and mates Jerome Koko and Louis "Moon" Kauakahi had withdrawal symptoms. "We don't have our instruments, and we don't know what to do with our hands," Koko said in an e-mail. "It's like going without coffee." On Jan. 21, the Sons do a show at Whittier College in California; first Island appearance will be Jan. 26 at Chai's Island Bistro. ...

In the January issue of Men's Journal, associate editor Austin Scaggs shares notes on North Shore resident and Grammy nominee Jack Johnson, who told Scaggs that after the soundtrack for "Curious George," for which Johnson composed tunes, fans will likely have to wait till 2008 for a new Johnson CD. With gold records and concert posters and other paraphernalia of his success around the house, Johnson doesn't know what to do with the stuff. "So one day I was hanging them up in the ping-pong room and (son) Trent walked in and said, 'Oh, cool! Got a little shrine to yourself there, huh?" It's a way Johnson's family keeps his ego in check. ...
