POLICE BEAT
Two men robbed on Waikiki Beach

Advertiser Staff

Police this morning were looking for five men who robbed two other men on Waikiki Beach.

The two victims, ages 30 and 40, told police they had been drinking when they met up about 12:40 a.m. with five other men who were drinking on the beach, police said.

They said one of the victims stopped one of the other men from going through his friend's knapsack. That apparently set off a melee in which the five men assaulted the other two, hitting one of them in the head with a beer bottle, police said.

The assailants then ran off with both of the victims' knapsacks.

Woman arrested after allegedly using stolen credit card numbers

A 20-year-old Kalihi woman was arrested yesterday at Ala Moana Center after she allegedly used stolen credit card numbers on three separate occasions to obtain $800 worth of gift cards.

Department store loss prevention officers observed the transactions and called police, who responded and arrested the woman on suspicion of three counts of second-degree forgery. She was later released without charges pending further investigation.

Man robbed, hit with revolver

A 32-year-old man told police he was robbed about 8:50 p.m. last night at a South King Street location by two men who appeared to be in their 20s.

The victim told police the two men approached him and demanded his money while one of them took out a revolver.

Police said the victim turned over his money and cell phone, at which point the man with the gun hit him on the head with it.

Officers were sent to the area, did a quick check and found no sign of the suspects. The robbery victim was treated at the scene, police said.

Storekeeper injured in armed robbery

A 62-year-old woman reported a robbery at her store on Mokauea Street in Kalihi last night.

The victim told police three men entered her store about 7:35 p.m. wearing hooded jackets and masks.

One of the men pulled out a revolver and demanded money from the cash register. The victim told police she turned the money over and that the man with the gun hit her on the head with it.

Police were called and checked the surrounding area, but could find no sign of the robbers.

The storekeeper was taken to The Queens Medical Center.

Police today were trying to determine if the Mokauea Street robbery was related to the later robbery on South King Street. (See story above.)

Boy critical after being assaulted by caretaker

Police yesterday were questioning a 28-year-old Kapahulu man about critical injuries to a 4-year-old boy.

Police described the man as the boy's caretaker. They said the man told investigators that he became upset at the boy for making too much noise and that he struck the boy several times in the face.

The child was taken to Kapi'olani Medical Center, where he was overcome by his injuries and lapsed into critical condition, police said.

Police classified the case as second-degree assault but had not made an arrest as of this morning.
