TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Skating With Celebrities," 8 p.m., Fox. This idea has a sort of daft appeal: Take skating champions and link them with nonskating celebrities. Half the duo can soar and spin; the other half is happy to be upright. That's a neat notion with some bumpy execution here. The celebrities are hardly an even batch. Jillian Barberie was a serious figure skater until she was 15; Dave Coulier has been playing hockey much of his life. Others — Todd Bridges, Bruce Jenner, Deborah Gibson, Kristy Swanson — haven't seen much ice time. The stars are also a mixed bunch. John Zimmerman and Lloyd Eisler are lifters; their teams can do moves that the others wouldn't dare. No one said reality TV would be fair, especially in these combinations. Zimmerman is with Barberie, Eisler with Swanson, Nancy Kerrigan with Coulier. Others are Kurt Browning with Gibson, Tai Babilonia with Jenner, Jenni Meno with Bridges. Each duo does a routine tonight, with three judges offering a rating. That's combined with scores from next Monday's episode; then one couple will be ousted.

OF NOTE

"South Beach," 5 p.m., UPN (KIKU). Steven Bauer plays a crooked cop leaning on Elizabeth (Vanessa L. Williams) for money. That forces her to align with the crooked Fuentes.

"Lost," 7 and 8 p.m., ABC. First is a rerun with Clare starting to lose faith in sweet Charlie. Then Michael, searching for his son, looks for the feared "Others." Jack, Locke and Sawyer go after him.

"American Idol," 7 p.m., Fox. A look at auditions in Denver.

"The Biggest Loser: Special Edition," 8 p.m., NBC. Two couples try to plan their weddings while continuing their weight loss competition.
