Getaway thwarted, two arrested for theft

Police arrested a man and woman yesterday who allegedly stole merchandise from a Windward O'ahu store as well as from a car that was parked in a lot adjoining the store.

Police said the man, 21, stole more than $300 from the unidentified store and fled in a getaway truck operated by the woman, 23.

Officers assigned to the Kane'ohe police district heard an all-points-bulletin that was broadcast about the theft and stopped the truck close to the store where the items were stolen. The officers noticed several items in the bed of the pickup truck that had been reported stolen from a car that had been parked in the lot adjacent to the store where the other items were taken.

The man and the woman in the truck were then arrested for suspicion of second-degree theft and a third-degree detaining stolen property offense.



Woman driving stolen car arrested

A 35-year-old woman was arrested in Kailua early this morning for suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle.

Police said the woman was stopped for a traffic violation about 1:35 a.m. when the officer who pulled her over checked with dispatchers and learned a 38-year-old woman had reported the car as stolen.

The woman found driving the car was arrested for suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.



Suspect in armed robbery arrested

A 27-year-old man was arrested in Waipahu yesterday as suspect in a knife-point robbery that occurred almost three months ago.

A 23-year-old man told police he was at a party in the Village Park area of Waipahu on Oct. 23 when he offered to give a "friend of a friend" a ride home.

The victim said he took the man to where he had asked to go, at which point the passenger drew a knife with a six-inch blade and demanded his money. He said the passenger forced him to drive to another area of Waipahu, where he got out of the car and ran.

The suspect was subsequently identified and was arrested about 12:15 p.m. yesterday at a Nawaakoa Street address.



Fingerprints lead to suspect's arrest for bank robberies

A 25-year-old man with no local address was arrested yesterday as a suspect in two Mo'ili'ili bank robberies that occurred a week apart late last year and early this year.

Police believe that Tyler Lee robbed the American Savings Bank branch at 1296 S. Beretania St. on Dec. 29 and the Hawaii National Bank branch at 1163 S. Beretania St. on Jan. 5.

In each of the robberies, a man passed a teller a demand note and pulled his shirt up to display a handgun tucked into his waistband. There were no injuries in either robbery.

Police said fingerprints gathered at the robbery sites led to Lee's arrest.



Man driving stolen car arrested

A 31-year old man was arrested in Waikiki after police reported seeing him drive away from the scene of a reported domestic argument.

Officers responding to the call checked the car's registration documents and determined a 24-year-old man had reported it stolen.

The driver was then arrested about 4:30 p.m. for suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.



Man, 52, arrested for terrorizing ex-girlfriend

A 52-year-old Kane'ohe man was arrested yesterday for allegedly robbing and terrorizing his former girlfriend last summer.

The girlfriend told police the man pointed a pocketknife at her June 1 and demanded her wallet, which contained $80.

Prior to leaving, the boyfriend extinguished his cigarette on her chest, punched and slapped her and threatened to kill her, the victim told police.

The suspect was located yesterday by members of the Kane'ohe police district crime reduction unit and was arrested at about 12:30 p.m. near the corner of Kamehameha and Kahekili highways.



Student, 15, arrested for allegedly damaging teacher's car

A 15-year-old student was arrested at Wai'anae High School yesterday for allegedly damaging a teacher's car.

School security officers reported seeing the student scratch the car from front to back. They apprehended the boy and took him to the school office. The teacher was then notified.

Police were called to the school and arrested the student about 2 p.m. for suspicion of second-degree criminal property damage.
